Over the last several weeks we have had a 'nighttime' visitor. Our little friend liked to get inside our trash can and tear into the bags of trash, then head out to the back of our house where he would climb up on the deck, and then up onto the area where our grill sets. What he did back behind that grill would make steam come out of Josh's ears. For some reason this critter was using that area as his bathroom and his visits were becoming quite frequent!
We had to get rid of the animal so Josh went out and bought a trap. The set came with a big trap and a little one. After getting them home Josh realized the big trap was broken, not wanting to make another trip to the store for a return, he tried to fix it with no luck........so he would put all sorts of goodies in the little trap, but quickly realized that our trap was too small because every morning we got up the food was gone and the trap wasn't set.
Who do you call when you need to fix something? Richard, Josh's Dad, of course. He came over and had the trap trap fixed and ready to go in minutes....... and that night we caught ourselves a coon! Now, Josh had been talking for days about what he was going to do with that raccoon when he caught it.....(and if I had been the one cleaning up his messes I probably would have been saying the same things!) but I knew that when he saw the animal that he would set it free. (Beneath that tough exterior lies a soft heart.... especially for animals!) He loaded the cage in the back of his car and drove it somewhere a couple of miles away. When he got home he said "I wonder how long it takes a raccoon to find it's way home?" Hopefully it will take that raccoon a long, long time!
*You can see what Salty thought about all of the commotion..... she was really on edge! Also notice the barricade we had to keep up to keep the raccoon from getting behind the grill!
